About the Leadership Program

The Leadership Program is held each summer in Boulder. The program is led by experienced IT professionals including CIOs and senior administrators in higher education. It offers participants a unique opportunity to connect with peers, as well as leaders in the profession, and to further develop their leadership skills in the context of higher education.

Participants will learn strategies to promote and lead change, nurture organizational development, encourage innovation, and much more. And they will do so in a supportive environment, where it is comfortable to share concerns and insights with colleagues who face many of the same challenges.

At the Institute, participants will examine the realities of higher education leadership and the characteristics of IT leaders. Participants will work in teams to address strategic issues associated with information technology on campus and are expected to engage in all of the Institute’s day and evening sessions.

This five-day intensive program offers a valuable opportunity to:

  • gain knowledge about yourself as a leader and further develop your leadership abilities
  • sharpen your understanding of the expanding influence of information technology on today’s campuses
  • explore leadership roles in planning, budgeting, decision making, promoting change, organization development, innovation, and more
  • acquire strategies for opening channels of communication across campus constituencies
  • learn how to collaborate and negotiate with individuals from different institutional perspectives
  • discover strategies for fostering systemic initiatives
  • identify effective ways to plan for and initiate change within your institution
  • develop insights into career management
  • argue the case for the strategic use of information technology on your campus
  • work with peers during the program in a team setting
