Enterprise 2006—The EDUCAUSE Enterprise Technology Conference

If you lead or manage information technologies in support of the higher education enterprise, you will find Enterprise 2006 a unique opportunity for focused, in-depth learning and networking with colleagues.

This is the first event of its kind tailored specifically for those who lead and manage enterprise and administrative information technologies in higher education and for those who aspire to do so. At the conference, we will focus on the current issues and challenges facing our institutions today and take a broad, enterprise-wide look at these challenges.

Among the topics we will address at this event include how leaders of higher education institutions can realize the value of IT to accomplish the institutional mission. Interactive sessions will include leadership issues, infrastructure, operational needs, systems and support, and customer service.

Who Should Attend

People who currently lead and manage administrative and enterprise technology groups within IT, business, or academic units at colleges and universities, as well as those who are emerging leaders in the field, will benefit from this event. A special focus of the event is on developing the next generation of leaders who work in these areas. Enterprise2006 will provide a venue for networking with peers as well as opportunities for aspiring leaders to build connections with mentors and colleagues.

Topics to be Addressed

  • The Higher Education Enterprise: What do IT leaders need to know? This topic area will include discussions about IT leadership, the role of higher education, politics, collaborative skills, governance, and regulatory issues. `
  • Architecture and Common Services: This topic area will include discussions about Web services, enterprise wide security, server and storage strategies, and identity management.
  • Running the Organization: This topic area will include discussions about dealing with difficult people, getting things done, managing your career, and budgetary issues.
  • The IT Application Portfolio: How do we run the business of the university and simultaneously manage not only the leading edge but also the trailing edge? This topic area will include discussions about the future of commercial higher education application systems, open and community source, ERPs and postimplementation issues, business continuity, and outsourcing.
  • Customer Care: This topic area will include discussions about customer service, help desk benchmarking, IT provider/consumer issues, and customer-focused organizational strategies.

Format of the Conference

This small, specialized conference has been designed to give you an opportunity to explore several topics in each of five key areas:

  • The Higher Education Enterprise
  • Architecture and Common Services
  • Running the Organization
  • The IT Application Portfolio
  • Customer Care

The schedule is organized in a curricular fashion to allow several aspects of each topic to be explored in a given time frame. Participants will choose from four interactive, solutions-oriented breakout sessions in each of the topic areas. Ample time has been allocated to each session for both presentation and interaction.

Plenary sessions providing provocative ideas and context will complement these small group track sessions. A panel of corporations will present their strategies for the future. A closing panel with higher education IT leaders will synthesize the conference with a helpful overview of the ideas discussed and offer practical, take-home advice.
