Very worthwhile. The best part is meeting people from other schools and sharing
ideas.

High Altitude Tips

The elevation of Denver is one mile-5,280 feet-and your body may need a few days to adjust to the reduced oxygen and low humidity, especially if you're coming from very low elevations. Don't be alarmed if you initially experience headaches, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and intolerance to physical exertion. Here are a few tips to help you adjust.

  • Avoid strenuous activity.
  • Take a nap if needed.
  • Drink plenty of water and other rehydrating liquids.
  • Eat lightly for the first day or two.
  • Go easy on alcoholic beverages, which will affect you twice as fast as at sea level. Don't be fooled into thinking you won't become intoxicated just because you've limited yourself to what you normally drink at home.
  • Wear good sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, and/or a hat if you plan to be outdoors for more than a few minutes, even on a cloudy day. Because the sun has less atmosphere to penetrate, it will burn you much more quickly than you may be accustomed to.
  • If you are planning to visit the mountains while in Colorado, a jacket is a good idea because it is typically much cooler in those areas than in Denver.
