Scholarship

The Forum is currently engaged in the following major research initiatives:

• The Forum on Politics, the Economy and Higher Education explores the role of higher education in the global economy, examines the multi-dimensional context within which higher education exists, and aims to deepen our understanding of higher education as a beneficial force for change.  Will Reed chairs the Forum on Politics and the Economy and Higher Education.

  The Forum on Politics, the Economy and Higher Education is made possible by a grant from The Meyers Foundation and the First Marblehead Corporation.

• The Ford Policy Forum studies key economic issues likely to influence the quality and performance of institutions of higher learning.  Its goal is to facilitate informed discussion of these issues and to develop policy recommendations and initiatives.  The Ford Policy Forum is chaired by Michael McPherson and Morton Owen Schapiro.

• The Forum on Human Cognition and New Learning Technologies examines how advances in the cognitive and neurosciences can enhance our understanding of how we learn and improve the design and development of new learning media and technologies.  John Seely Brown chairs The Forum on Human Cognition and New Learning Technologies.

• The Forum on Connecting Campus and Community focuses on how the academic and financial resources of college and universities can effectively address social and community needs. Maureen Devlin chairs The Forum on Connecting Campus and Community.

• The Forum on the Student and Workplace of the Future examines the demographics of future student populations in the U.S. and worldwide, and future labor market and workplace requirements.

  The Forum on the Student and Workplace of the Future is made possible by a grant from the Lumina Foundation for Education. .

• The Forum on Higher Education Finance explores current issues and emerging trends and strategies in the financing and financial management of higher education.  Bill Massy chairs The Forum on Higher Education Finance.
