Core Data Service Appropriate Use Policy
EDUCAUSE offers the opportunity to participate in our Core Data Service to the association's institutional members (and to institutional non-members upon request) as a community service. CDS responds to your ongoing need for comparison data about campus information technology environments and practices, identified by campus rather than aggregated in general reports. Participating institutions have contributed data with the understanding that those data are to be shared only among colleagues from participating institutions for internal institutional planning purposes and are not to be made publicly available. Thus access to the Core Data Service database is conditioned on the users' (both the individuals and the institutions they represent) acceptance of the Terms and Conditions of Use of this Database Service (see below). By accessing and using this service, users will be deemed to have agreed to all terms and conditions of use without exception. Any campus found in violation of these restrictions will lose its CDS participation privileges, and EDUCAUSE may take legal action against any party who accesses or uses database content or data without authorization.
Copyright
The data contributed to CDS by your campus remain the property of your campus and may be used in any way that your campus deems appropriate. However, the overall contents of the CDS database, survey, and web site are the copyrighted property of EDUCAUSE. You may not reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, transfer, download, or modify any content or data found on or through this site (other than your own institutional data) without the express written permission of EDUCAUSE except as permitted (see below). The use of content or data from CDS on other websites or in any environment of networked computers is strictly prohibited. EDUCAUSE claims copyright to data captured through CDS to protect data confidentiality on behalf of data contributors, not for commercial gain.
Terms and Conditions of Use of this Database Service
To access the CDS interactive database you must agree to the following:
- I affirm that I have been authorized by my institution to use the Core Data Service interactive database service and that I have entered my unique EDUCAUSE username and password and have not used someone else's username and password to gain access. I understand that my unique EDUCAUSE login credentials carry with them authorization to access this database service, and thus I will not share my credentials with anyone.
- I will not copy institutionally identifiable data into reports, spreadsheets, e-mail messages, or any other medium that will be made public, either within or beyond my campus. I may incorporate such data into private reports for planning committees or other executive cabinets for use in closed sessions at my institution.
- I will not share any information—even aggregated data—from the database with anyone external to my campus; in particular, I will not share data or provide access to data to members of the media, corporations, associations, agencies or commissions, researchers, other institutions, or others who might approach me requesting such information.
- As an exception, for the purposes of peer review or similar studies being conducted on behalf of my institution, I may provide information from the database to a representative of another Core Data Service institution acting as a peer reviewer or in a similar capacity who has been authorized by his or her campus's Core Data manager to access the service. In such instances, no prior written permission from EDUCAUSE is required. If I wish to provide Core Data information to a peer reviewer from a non-Core Data participating institution or a representative of a participating institution not authorized by his or her campus to access the service, prior written permission from EDUCAUSE is required per the other provisions of this policy.
- I will not include aggregated data derived from the database in professional publications, public documents, slide presentations delivered beyond my campus, electronic transmissions, or any other medium without express written permission from EDUCAUSE.
- I may incorporate aggregated data into a report for the purpose of making comparisons with peer campuses as part of a campus planning and/or budgeting process. I understand that such a report is to be used only by the planning group for which it is developed and is specifically not to be made public or distributed beyond my campus.
- If I am employed by a corporation but working on a campus through an outsource arrangement, or if my campus has a partnership with or is collaborating or consulting with a corporation, I understand that any information I obtain from use of the database is for use by my campus only and may not be shared with the corporation.
