Abstract

Security incidents can have serious ramifications for an institution's reputation. The establishment of formal security incident response teams is considered “best practice” for handling complex situations. Offering perspectives from a medium-sized and a large university, this presentation will describe why the conventional wisdom for setting up such teams isn't always effective in a higher education environment. It will also explain the alternative incident response models developed at Boston College and the University of Oklahoma.
