Abstract

In a parting dose of high altitude group therapy, we’ll consider the latest list of monstrous fears that can render a university CIO sleepless, if not paranoid and paralyzed. We’ll share with one another strategies for inspiring ourselves and our colleagues, not just to keep moving, but even to transform some of our most entrenched institutional mountains, howls notwithstanding. Someone once described the CIO’s real job as juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle on gas-soaked carpet ... and extending the carpet into uncharted terrain. What’s your favorite metaphor for the job? What will constitute success at it in the year ahead for you? For all of us?
