Abstract

This workshop will center on the role of faculty and student surveys in assessment and on the importance of doing them right. Examples of good survey practices (and some bad ones) will be presented. The new ELI faculty/student survey tool and the focus group tool will also be introduced.

In this workshop, you will learn what it means to be visually fluent, instructional technology strategies to support faculty as they engage and communicate visually with their students, and tactics to recast the traditional IT service model to better serve a visually literate academic community.

Abstract

The e-portfolio movement continues to grow and mature both nationally and internationally, and the EPAC community continues to be a force in ongoing discussions. EPAC members and participants will engage in dialogue regarding e-portfolio implementation issues at the campus, department, and course levels. Both successes and stumbling blocks will be addressed.

Whether you are required to evaluate a project by a funding agency, need to evaluate a program in order to retain accreditation, or simply want to know “what works” in your classroom or institution, it is important to design an evaluation that will be both effective and sustainable. This workshop will explore the evaluation process through helpful and accessible resources such as the NSF’s 2002 User-Friendly Handbook for Project Evaluation and the Online Evaluation Resource Library (OERL).

Four scenarios about the future of learning will be interactively reviewed. Participants will use the scenarios as a foundation to collaboratively develop a set of implications on physical space for these futures. This expansive thinking will better prepare participants for any eventuality at their institution.

The ELI brings together a diverse group of individuals interested in advancing learning through IT innovation. This session will introduce newcomers and other interested members to ELI's philosophy and programs. Participants will learn about the different ways to become engaged with ELI activities as well as ELI's future directions. Participants in the Newcomers' Orientation are encouraged to stay for the member session that follows to begin networking with the wider ELI community.
