Abstract

In the spirit of convergence, the former Wireless Networking and Integrated Communications Strategies working groups have merged and will be holding an all-day meeting as the Converged Communications Working Group (CCWG). Please join us to discuss some exciting topics in the realm of convergence and mobility such as Duke University's pilot wireless network project (using 802.11n) that affords up to five times the performance of traditional wireless networks. And what about IP video? Is there anything happening in the WiMAX space? And now that convergence is real, what about "presence" and privacy? Come prepared to share your questions and your experiences.

Abstract

The Network Policy Council will hold an open meeting to review policy and networking issues of interest to the community including developments in network neutrality, the recent 700 MHz auction, the Universal Service Fund, and P2P file sharing. This session will discuss the valuable role of the higher education technology community as activists and the impact coordinated efforts can have on potential legislation and regulations. In previous NPC open meetings we have also discussed both recent and currently evolving issues in Washington (for example, CALEA and the Reid Amendment) and the decisive role higher education played.
