Session Types

Annual meeting sessions generally fall into one of the following types:

  • Research-based: A session involving the presentation of quantitative and / or qualitative research on a teaching, learning, and technology project or topic
  • Innovative Practice: A session in which the presenter describes an innovative teaching, learning, and technology practice or program at one or more institutions
  • Learning Technology: A session focusing on the implementation or exploration of a learning technology

We have included session types at the end of the session titles in the online program to help you plan your personal conference agenda. We will also provide session type identifiers in the print program to assist you in navigating the conference onsite.

Conference Components

Experience It Sessions

ELI will once again offer Experience It sessions, which provide participants the opportunity to gain direct experience with emerging learning practices and technologies. Each session will be repeated so a total of 80 attendees may attend the four different sessions. To make the Experience It sessions' hands-on activities possible, space is limited to 40 people each session and in-person registration for these sessions is required.

Poster and Project Briefing Sessions

Informal, drop-in poster and project briefing sessions will be held over all three days of the annual meeting in Curacao 1-4, allowing attendees to explore member initiatives and research related to the use of technology to advance successful learning on a one-to-one basis.

Innovation and Community Interaction at the Annual Meeting

At the ELI Annual Meeting, session presentations are only the beginning of the learning that can take place. Don't forget to explore the ways ELI is fostering innovation and community interaction through interactive activities such as learning circles, informal learning space demonstrations, Experience It sessions, and community-generated media. In 2009, ELI is piloted new ways to connect through an online Ning community, an informal Ribbon Bar, and a conference-wide experimentation with alternate reality games. Don't forget to check out what's new in 2009.
