EDUCAUSE Track2002 Annual Gartner-EDUCAUSE UpdateWednesday, October 02, 2002 Michael Zastrocky, Senior Advisor, The Chronicle of Higher Education Academic institutions naturally wish to encourage a creative IT environment, but in a post-September 11 world, higher education institutions must work for a better balance between IT freedom and responsibility. In this update we will look at managing expanding demands with tight budgets and diminishing credibility, protecting privacy and ensuring secure institutional systems, and tracking new and emerging technologies. The session will present current data from a recent Gartner higher education survey, with particular attention on e-learning, portals, and course management systems. The 2002 Campus Computing SurveyWednesday, October 02, 2002 Kenneth C. Green, Founding Director, The Campus Computing Project Qiong Wang, Director, Dept of Educational Technology, Graduate School of Education, Peking University Begun in 1990, The Campus Computing Project is the largest continuing study of the role of information technology in American higher education. The session will present new data from the project's 2002 survey. Key topics include user support issues, e-commerce, wireless networks, strategic and financial planning for IT, instructional integration of information technology, campus IT standards, campus portal plans, Web site services, and IT budgets. The presentation also includes new national data about ERP planning and implementation efforts. This session will also include a presentation summarizing new data from Peking University, which recently completed a survey of more than 500 colleges and universities in China, using many items from the US Campus Computing questionnaire. Peking University is a participant in the Asian Campus Computing Survey (ACCS), which is affiliated with the US Campus Computing Project, and includes universities in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. |
